What attracted me in the first place when I heard about Urbanseeder, was the "Urbanization" of flirting through casual daily activity. Flirting was made available through any object or thing you think would act best for you - a concept that might look quite ambitious in the beginning, but now I learn it carried a sharp vision into the urban digital lifestyle that we are growing into rapidly.
Today I read about the Italian fashion firm Shyno, that allows customers to use their t-shirts to signal if they are singles, and let others contact them through SMS into a private box to check opportunities. So I immediately asked my friend from Milano, Fabio, and he affirmed this is a hot trend now in the streets.
If you see this video preview by Scoble, it definitely sounds familiar. That's exactly the same principal behind Urbanseeder, which was conceived earlier, back in 2005.
I don't know if Shyno took some inspiration from the US thesis work (which was developed in italian design institute Ivrea), but one thing is now obvious - this concept works!
I used to talk with the US gals and guys how they are going to bootstrap this service into the markets, and explain people how to use it. I thought it could be a classic grassroots evolution. So now it seems that it's already happening, and in BIG. I won't go into details why Urbanseeder is by far more advanced and rich in features than what Shyno are doing, but it is. Best to sign up for the official launch ,which should be soon, and check their blog.
It's always hard to predict consumer trends, especially related to interaction and emotional activities - but once there's a bingo, it becomes contagious. Everybody wants to have it, and major brands look for solutions how to tap on these trends.
I wouldn't be surprised if some fashion of electronic device brand would find interest to collaborate with Urbanseeder in the very near future. Gucci, Castro, Pull & Bear, Adidas, Zara, LG, BenQ, Swatch - just few names I can think of that could be sitting now and planning their foray into the Urbanseeding game.
Looks like shiny horizons are opening for this neat concept...as they say in:
