The Rails Ads - Simply Hilarious

Wow, this is one of the neatest video series I've seen so far.

Remember the famous "Hi I'm Mac, Hi I'm PC" adverts?
So here's a superb adaptation of this concept into the PHP Vs. Ruby battlefield, done by the great guys at patched software.

Here's the last chapter (6), and you'd better check all the previous episodes...

Once Again 1st in Google Image Search - This Time Thanks to Fleck

You might remember the previous time I surprisingly discovered that I scored 1st on Google's image search - it was with Amanda Congdon, and my ego skied like a maniac.

So this week I came across another #1 case, this time with Google image search for "Atari Retro", with a very interesting aspect: The URL of the page comes from Fleck - the nice page annotation service (previous posts about them).

Once again Google no. 1...

I wonder what that means...? Could it be that someone linked to this fleck cached? and if yes, why I can't find this link? :) Fellow fleckers - would be happy to hear your guesses. Anyway, this could have very interesting implications for the Fleck service.

Btw, Fleck have released a new add-on for Firefox, which is really nice and elegant, and shows you if the page you are browsing was flecked (annotated by someone). I found that whenever I see a sign that there's a fleck on the page, I'm curious to check it.

Dapper v2 - Wow...this is too neat

Dapper just announced on their new major upgrade of the service to ver 2, so I went to check it out.

It is really wicked actually. I think everybody can now see clearly what immense potential this "data deity" game has. Build and connect data on the web like Lego, publish the way you want, and discover new value in the process.

The main new feature is the widget creator, and I recommend to go and play with it - that's the best way to get the real idea behind this service.

I wanted first to do something with the Google Music Trends Dapp, but it didn't really work, so I used another nice one to display live playlists from SomaFM radio:

But to be honest, had to play a bit with the flickr bikini dapp as well, it's hard to pass on it :)

And here is it:

I'm still looking for more interesting dapps...so anyone who has something cool, please comment.

Kinnernet 2007 #5: The Incredible Balls Organ (Xylophone) Machine

Aside from the Thinktanks camp, Kinnernet is also very much a Geeks Vaudeville -  something I never really had a chance to attend before, and was a great experience. The highlight event was the Power Tool Drag Race (will cover that later) hosted by Pablos, but what hooked me was This amazing music machine, built by Didi Vardi.

First play the vid to get a taste:

Quite a crazy thing, with a lovely glimpse of magic. Lots of things are moving, jumping and making sounds. Apparently they also presented it on The Burning Man festival, under the official name of "The Vibrating Laser Balls Organ".

Neat stuff. So I've been thinking what tune I can put for this item, and had to come with this killer live mashup from the Stanton Warriors (who recently played at the Barzilay Club here in Tel Aviv).

Mobiluck Live (2.0) coming soon...

(Disclaimer: I'm a small investor in Mobiluck)

At the recent 3gsm I had a great time together with Olivier Chouraki, the CEO of Mobiluck.
Apart from going to parties and strolling the venue with models, he also showed me the beta version of the upcoming Mobiluck 2.0 - a neat Mobile IM app with global/local location features that open possibilities for all sorts of cool services.

It's still a closed beta, but I hope to post some screenshots soon. The first Mobiluck client was the leading bluetooth messenger (see a very cool flash movie here), with the biggest handset compatibility. The new version introduces a full online app, client-free, in addition to the client version.

Bluetooth and mobile proximity services have taken a big step ahead in the last year, and Mobiluck aims at this growing domain as well.

Kinnernet 2007 #4: Video "Supermarket 2.0"

A brilliant short movie you ought to watch, made by Lior from Wishood and Gil from Urbanseeder.
(could also be added to the everything 2.0 list i guess).

Kinnernet started...

It's my first time here, and so far I can sum my impression as happily overwhelmed. From the many unique and smart people that are attending and from the avalanche of activities and discussions - all are interesting, mind-stimulating and fun. Too much to digest in so little time..

The game room is totally neat, and it's now 02:40 and people are playing in every possible console.

Schwag attack

Schwag The Dog is a cheeky and sleek new blog about all things Schwag (= all those merch thingies that startups and web 2.0 animals make for us to consume). You gotta love this blog, it's really cool.

Coming from Dutch lads Wouter and Robert (Wakoopa, RoomWare, Blueace.nl).

The idea is definitely clever and right on time - it's great and light-reading content for techies and design/art people, and also a nice way to offer some advertising opportunities.

Ego corner - here are their post about the Urbanseeder stickers (limited edition) that i got.
Ego corner 2 - my lousy laptop with the latest badges.

Last thing - if I ever get some free time, I'd like to try a little idea about music-driven schwags...

Look mom! I'm no. 1 in Google image search for Amanda Congdon

So once again I'm finding surprising facts on how search engines are indexing my lousy blog.

Couple of months ago it was about #2 on MSN live search for "80's computer games" (hell knows why).
But now it's really major league stuff. I mean, I'm swimming in the celeb pool :)

Check out Google's Image search for "Amanda Congdon" - at least for now and some days ago, the lovely jaw opening nice pic I featured when Amanda left Rocketboom, appears as the first result.

Here's a screenshot I've taken to document this ego-boosting, one-in-a-lifetime incident:

I'm so proud of myself...

Btw, I honestly like what Amanda is doing, especially her personal indie stuff projects (AmandaAcrossAmerica), which are paving the way for new media producer, consumers and prosumers..

Urbanseeding is happening right now

What attracted me in the first place when I heard about Urbanseeder, was the "Urbanization" of flirting through casual daily activity. Flirting was made available through any object or thing you think would act best for you - a concept that might look quite ambitious in the beginning, but now I learn it carried a sharp vision into the urban digital lifestyle that we are growing into rapidly.

Today I read about the Italian fashion firm Shyno, that allows customers to use their t-shirts to signal if they are singles, and let others contact them through SMS into a private box to check opportunities. So I immediately asked my friend from Milano, Fabio, and he affirmed this is a hot trend now in the streets.
If you see this video preview by Scoble, it definitely sounds familiar. That's exactly the same principal behind Urbanseeder, which was conceived earlier, back in 2005.

Usshirt See this pic? Seems like pretty much the same idea of Shyno, as it was simulated 3 years ago, when Urbanseeder was in early lab stages.

I don't know if Shyno took some inspiration from the US thesis work (which was developed in italian design institute Ivrea), but one thing is now obvious - this concept works!

I used to talk with the US gals and guys how they are going to bootstrap this service into the markets, and explain people how to use it. I thought it could be a classic grassroots evolution. So now it seems that it's already happening, and in BIG. I won't go into details why Urbanseeder is by far more advanced and rich in features than what Shyno are doing, but it is. Best to sign up for the official launch ,which should be soon, and check their blog.

It's always hard to predict consumer trends, especially related to interaction and emotional activities - but once there's a bingo, it becomes contagious. Everybody wants to have it, and major brands look for solutions how to tap on these trends.

I wouldn't be surprised if some fashion of electronic device brand would find interest to collaborate with Urbanseeder in the very near future. Gucci, Castro, Pull & Bear, Adidas, Zara, LG, BenQ, Swatch - just few names I can think of that could be sitting now and planning their foray into the Urbanseeding game.

Looks like shiny horizons are opening for this neat concept...as they say in:
